Licensed Professional Counselor
A Licensed Professional Counselor, Gil has his Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also has a Master’s in Theological Studies from Trinity College at the University of Bristol (England), as well as a Doctor of Ministry from Knox Theological Seminary. In addition to the privilege of serving as the Director of Covenant Counseling, Gil is the Director of Ministries and Programs at the Cathedral Church of the Advent. He is married and the father of two daughters.
Areas of FocusGil has broad interests in several areas, which include the wide range of issues often found in both individual and marriage counseling. Specific counseling interests include pre-marital and marital counseling, as well as working with individuals experiencing problems with depression, stress, anxiety, grief, and family of origin issues. He enjoys the opportunity of working with people who are going through various transitions, including career changes, aging, or caring for others. He often works with pastors and other professionals.
Hope, Help and HealingGil draws especially from his years of work in pastoral ministry, coming alongside individuals and couples who are hurting, confused, or struggling for any number of reasons. His work hopes to bring people closer to the reality of the redemptive power of God, towards lasting change.

WHAT TO EXPECT
A first session typically begins by meeting the counselor and going over a few aspects related to confidentiality. The counselor will want to know what brings you to the office and will often try to gain a better sense of additional contexts. Depending on the situation, you may begin to develop initial hopes or goals for your time together, to provide greater clarity on the focus of your counseling.
Our counselors work to provide a supportive and caring environment. Issues or dynamics can then be explored and addressed towards facilitating the needed or desired change.
