Hope for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after an individual is exposed to or experiences a traumatic event or events. The response is different for each person, as two individuals experiencing the same event will likely have two very different responses. Moreover, the response may not reveal itself for some time following the event, and can often affect significantly several areas of one’s life. Thankfully, awareness of PTSD and its effects has grown significantly in recent years.
Individuals with PTSD may experience a range of symptoms, including flashbacks or reliving the experience in real time, over and over. An individual may feel depressed or “numbed-out”, or may remain in a hyper-vigilant state, always seemingly on-guard and alert. The range and intensity of the symptoms may vary, and the effects are often debilitating, affecting one’s health, the ability to work effectively, relationships and family life, and more.
