Hope for Bulimia
Eating disorders, specifically bulimia and anorexia, affect as many as 25 million individuals in America. A life-threatening disease, individuals with eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental health disorders. Often difficult to identify early, they carry great risks if left untreated.
Bulimia (or bulimia nervosa) is a secretive disease involving a regular pattern of binge eating and purging (consuming a large amount of food in a short time, then expelling it from the body). Many individuals who struggle with bulimia are at a normal weight, but view their bodies in a distorted way. The physical effects of bulimia, as one would expect, are significant, as the body is unable to retain needed nutrition.
Our Approach to Help and Healing
Covenant Counseling offers individuals and families help with bulimia and other eating disorders. Usually in consultation with a physician and a dietician, counseling for the affected individual, as well as for the family or spouse, is often needed. We can help with recovering a right relationship with food.
